DOCTRINAL STATEMENT
Article I—THE SCRIPTURES
We believe that all “Scripture is given by inspiration of God (2 Tim. 3:16, 17).” The sixty-six books of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, comprise the inspired Word of God and are without error in the original writings. The Bible is God’s complete written revelation for the salvation of man and is the divine and final authority regarding Christian life and faith. (1 Cor. 2:13; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)
Article II—THE GODHEAD
We believe that there is one uncreated eternal Holy God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And these three are one God, co-equal in power, attributes, and perfection. (Gen. 1:1; Isa. 43:10; Heb. 1:1-3; John 10:30). There is, though, apparent separation of some functions among the members of the Godhead. For example, the Father chooses who will be saved (Eph. 1:4); the Son redeems them (Eph. 1:7); and the Holy Spirit seals them (Eph. 1:13).
Article III—SALVATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God manifest in the flesh, was born of a virgin, led a sinless life, died on the cross in substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, and rose again bodily on the third day and was seen by many witnesses. Because He ever lives, He alone is our High Priest and advocate. We believe that the new birth comes only by grace and through faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior. We are saved on His record, not ours. (Acts 4:12; Rom. 5:6-9; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Eph. 2:8)
Article IV—THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that with the ascension of Christ, we have the arrival of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, who dwells in every believer, and by His baptism unites all to Christ in one body and continues to work in the believer to bring about sanctification. He illuminates the mind of the believer and reveals to him the things of God. (John 14:26; Rom. 8:9-11; Eph. 4:30; 1 John 2:27)
Article V—HUMANKIND
We believe that man was originally created in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:26) but fell through the sin of disobedience. As a result all mankind from Adam, except the Man, Christ Jesus, is born with a sinful depraved nature, hopelessly sinful in themselves, apart from the divine grace of God. (Gen. 1:26, 27; Psa. 14:1-3; John 40:5; Rom. 5:12-14; Eph. 2:1-3)
Article VI—THE CHURCH
We believe that the church can be viewed in two ways: the visible church (all who profess to be Disciples of Christ) and the invisible church (all who truly are saved). Christ’s Church is a vertical church made up of individuals who have recognized their lost state and placed their trust/faith in the redeeming saving work of Christ for their salvation. (Eph. 1:22-23; 1 Cor. 1: 2; 12:12, 13; 1 Pet. 2:9) Jesus Christ will return again for His own church and all true believers will reign with Him throughout eternity. (1 Thess. 4:15-17; 2 Pet. 3:13)
Article VII—ASSURANCE
We believe that all who are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ Jesus can have the assurance of salvation and are eternally secure in Christ. (1 John 5:13; John 10:28, 29; Heb. 10:22)
Article VIII—THE SCRIPTURAL ORDINANCES
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the biblical ordinances of the church for all true believers in Christ and that they are a scriptural means of testimony for the church in this age and should be followed as Christ Jesus commanded. (Mat. 28:19; Acts 8:12; 1 Cor. 11:23-26)
Article IX—THE BLESSED HOPE
We believe in the imminent return of the Lord, which is the blessed hope of the church, will be followed by the tribulation; the establishment of the reign of Christ on earth for one thousand years; the eternal state of punishment for the wicked and unsaved, and the eternal state of blessing for the saved. (Mat. 24:21; Tit. 2:13; 1 Thes. 4:13-18; Rev. 20: 1-6)
Article X—THE NEW HEAVENS AND EARTH
We believe that at the consummation of all things, God will destroy the elements with fire, and there will be a new earth, which is the home of the righteous. This heavenly life will have no more death, sorrow, or pain. This condition of perfection and fellowship with the Lord will be without end in a condition of light without darkness. (2 Pet. 3:12, 13; Luke 20:36; Rev. 7:17; Rev. 21:4; Mat. 25:26; Rev. 22:5)
